Hi guy's I have seen some beautiful art on canvas in the discount shops; the one i like in particular is one painting done over three canvases eg. Surreal trees.I would love to paint one myself ,i have found some nice paintings on google but can i copy these if the painting is only going to be hanging on my own wall or do i have to change it a bit is this legal or not ? thanks; janet.
Well no its not legal, in any stretch, but if you use it just as reference , and take your own spin on it, be creative with your own style, be creative with it all the way, I think you could, and I think even if other artist won't say they do that, I think lots of artist borrow ideas, put it to work for them, with their own flair. JMHO
That is an incredibly touchy subject, and generally the answer is "don't do it" unless, as Morgan says, you use it as your starting point and take it in YOUR direction. Otherwise, I would say to honor the original artist and buy their work if it speaks to you that strongly.
Trust yourself to be able to paint your own thing! Are you interested in art and being an artist or are you just looking for something cheap to hang in your house? Welcome to the forum Janet. Scout
