Oil painting on Archival Canvas in a Black Metal Floater Frame. This painting is part of my Ecological Landscape series. This dune field has the tallest dunes in North America and spreads across 30 square miles. This high-altitude desert environment is surrounded by nine other ecosystems found in the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Scientists believe the dunes began forming less than 450,000 years ago. Who knows what climate change will do to this fragile ecological system. The EPA in 2018 has authorized oil drilling and fracking near the Dunes.
