Description

Mixed Media on Archival Clay Board in a Black Metal Floater Frame. This painting is part of my Ecological Landscape series. Based on my experiences around open pit mining, I used the German Garzweiler mine as my source of inspiration. Historically, mining is a temporary activity. The operating life of a mine lasts anywhere from a few years to several decades. Years ago a Wyoming rancher told me that he would never open his land to open pit mining because there is no returning the land to its original form underground. He compared it to cutting open ones arm; scooping out everything; taking some stuff; then dumping the rest back into the arm and sewing it up.
