A Glimpse of the Past

Description

I have long held a fascination for cormorants. From far away they look like boring black birds but the first time I saw one in my zoom lens I was amazed at their appearance. Their coats have an iridescent sheen that can make them look anywhere from blue to brown, they have bright green eyes, and scales on their beaks that make them almost dragon-like. I think you can truly see evolution in these creatures, the dinosaurs they once were are still so visible. I have many cormorant projects coming in the future, it's become a favorite subject of mine. This image was featured in the December 2012 issue of Southwest Art Magazine, it won 2nd place in their Annual Art Competition.
