Desperate Measures

What can a tree do to stand firm as the soil beneath it slowly and inevitably washes away? This one has sent out more and more roots, revealing its determination to survive. I found this tree in Silver Falls State Park, near Salem, OR. Graphite on Arches 88 paper. Exhibited in "California Fine Art", Sacramento, CA, 2018 3rd Place Drawing, "Salon at the Triton Statewide 2-D Competition", Santa Clara, CA, 2017 Exhibited in "Landscapes, Seascapes & Urbanscapes", Palo Alto, CA, 2016
