Are We There Yet

Life, and all it’s demands, kept me out of my studio for almost two weeks. I found myself resenting any activity, no mater how necessary, that kept me away from the canvas and paints. When my thoughts strayed I found myself thinking about colors and shapes and lines. There’s so much satisfaction in the process, even the daydreaming part of it. When my schedule cleared and I was finally able to devote some time to creating, I was so happy that I had already started a canvas. The bold colors were nice and dry which allowed me to layer more colors without ending up with unexpected combinations. Sometimes my impatience gets me in trouble. That is one thing I do appreciated about the cold wax and oil process – it forces me to take my time and exercise some restraint.

With this painting I used oil, cold wax, raw pigments and oil sticks to create a soothing combination of colors and shapes. Several layers give this work a complex presentation.
