Tying Hair

"Tying Hair" is a mixed media, figurative piece on archival paper. Sometimes I go through periods where I hand dye or color my paper using this method. When I use this technique I will do multiple sheets at one time and even small scraps of paper and varieties of archival papers. I color and then just move them off to the side to dry naturally. I stack these paper for later use. When I am ready to use these papers I resoak to stretch properly for work. Sometimes they get really wrinkled or even folded. There have been times I folded them methodically into squares so that they would have a grid when dried and re-stretchered.... love playing! Here I chose the paper and decided to draw/paint one of my models on it. I love when my models pull up their hair for the neck view. I start with a light sketch and then use a thinned gesso wash to establish mass. There is a scratch across her waist area that was just part of my paper, which I accept as we all have flaws, but beautiful imperfections. So this could be classified as a mixed-media painting or a mixed media drawing. I have incorporated watercolor and colored pencil. I would crop an area of approximately 19 1/2" x 16" to be exposed through the opening in a mat or frame. Enjoy all the wonderful matting and framing possibilities. Fine art should never be in direct sun light or by a hear source. This piece does require glass. follow me on instagram, bossertnancy blog: nancybossert.blogspot.
