Originally this painting was intended to be a simple study of sunlight on white fabric--dinner napkins, to be precise. Then, news came of the passing of a great man, and I visualized a poppy--a symbol of those who've fallen--hanging by black satin ribbons against the shroud-like white cotton. Oil and copper leaf on linen.
