Oil Painting. This piece was on exhibit at the Cincinnati VA Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio for the 2020 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. THIS PIECE WON 1ST PLACE IN THE NATIONAL VETERANS CREATIVE ARTS FESTIVAL IN 2020, Oil Painting Category, CINCINNATI LOCAL AREA. IT NOW IS GOING ON TO THE NATIONAL COMPETITION LEVEL. This piece is of Shequonor (Stone), a Shawnee warrior ready for battle with his Death Mask on. The black mask and indicates that he has seen death and is ready to die for his people. The red dots are Remembrance Dots for fellow warriors and female tribe members who died from diseases brought upon them by the white settlers. The lines on his chin are black and red. The black means that he has spoken words of death to his enemies; it is his Death Song if he should die in battle. The red lines represent that if either/both should happen, they will be sealed in blood. The scars on his cheeks are scars of his people for things that have been lost. This piece is a Oil Portrait on stretched linen. It is painted with Windsor & Newton oil paints.
