Another Iris from a garden in Montana. The wide-open sky was just starting to get light with the sun's rays peeking over the trees. It seemed so moody and colorful all at the same time! The pinks and blues just seemed to glow. I love the dark background. It really brings out the morning light! Irises are so beautiful with hundreds of variations of colors and varieties. My favorite is these tall bearded irises. They last for a short time only, but in a painting, they last all year! I love painting in watercolors. I love the way the colors glow through each layer and fill with light, like stained glass.
All my watercolor paintings are painted on Arches 300# cold-pressed, bright white watercolor paper. Arches paper is archival and acid-free. I use M. Graham and Winsor and Newton's professional watercolor paints. My colors are permanent and archival and will not fade or change color! I will never paint with fugitive colors no matter how beautiful or vibrant they are. It is important to me that my paintings will last a lifetime and beyond with the proper care and attention.
