The Forgiving of a Spiritual Nomad

The patterns and symbols as well as the scenery is meant to bring the viewer into a reflection. The design is made of prayer beads that undulate above the desert’s dawn sky and the Mountain of Light. The name, The Ever-Forgiving, echoes through the corners of the piece above the tents of the spiritual nomads paired with miniature texts to remind of the night when the first verse was revealed. The Cave of Hira faces the city of Mecca. Our gaze is to the backside of the mountain, the same direction as the prophet’s would have been as he reflected. The collective shapes of the tents hint toward the square shape of the Kaaba. To the left side, the crescent adds to the circular motion that allows one’s eye to circumvent around the piece, much like pilgrims circle the Kaaba. It is not my intent that you take on my meaning of the symbolism within but that you bring to this piece your own connection.
