This is an oil painting on canvas, 12x16. The painting was painted completely Plein Air (painted on location). There is nothing like Maine light. I was determined to capture the brilliant light on the building against the rich colors of blues and greens surrounding the structure. I also wanted to create a deep sense of space by recording the rough character of the immediate foreground that flows into the middle ground of the river. Great painters like Sargent and Bellows influence me. They directly respond to color and light with immediacy. I am excited about that same immediacy.
