Colorful Expressions

Rooted in Love

During the COVID shutdown, I thought a lot about my ancestors - those I knew, those I never met. Although I felt my situation was bleak and hopeless, I realized that family before me endured so much from famine, war and even personal demons and struggles. If they could do it, I certainly could. My grandfather often would come into my thoughts. His life reminded me that we can always do better, we can always love one another, we can be better. We simply need to keep going. Later that summer after the shutdown, I visited my uncle. As I hugged him, it wasn't just him hugging me, but it was my grandfather - his love rooted deep and shining through the both of us. I chose earth tones to illustrate our connection with our family tree. We are merely branches extended from love. The simplistic forms embedded in each other shows that we are rooted in our loved ones, bringing forth light and love.
