Fun Facts:
• Dahlias grow from tubers, which must be dug up and stored over winter in colder climates—then replanted in spring.
• Their diverse blooms attract hummingbirds, butterflies, small insects—and even tiny frogs that feed on those insects!
• Native to Mexico, dahlias were brought to Europe by explorers for their perceived medicinal uses.
• While most dahlias have little to no fragrance, their brilliant colors are what lure in pollinators and admirers alike.
My Dahlia Story:
I absolutely love this dahlia. Its dramatic contrast and layered petals remind me so much of life—layer upon layer, challenge and beauty unfolding together. Each floral painting teaches me something new. Every one is a new test of brush, paint, and patience. At first, I wonder if it will come together. But once the layout and base coats are in place, the composition begins to bloom—and from there, it becomes a party in the paint.
