Kandra James was born, raised and is currently living in Washington, DC. Color is her passion which means that she is constantly chasing that just right mixture of explosive moments in time when the just right light captures the just right image. Sometimes that just right image is a photograph, which she indulges in capturing with the always present camera at her side. Sometime, that just right moment is seen as acrylic on canvas, where she captures the memories of a moment or a dream in the colors of her imagination. Her photography focus is still-life moments, abstraction and black and whites. In painting, Kandra focuses on abstraction.
As well as a painter and a photographer, Kandra is a student of the arts, currently working towards a graduate degree in art history with a focus on marginalized women artists and contemporary African diasporic artists. She holds a BA in Psychology, an MA in Education and will soon complete another MA in Art History.
