Stone Child

This is a wood-burned portrait with acrylic paint on a 7X5, 1-inch deep basswood block. The subject is Ahsiniiwin, translated as Rocky Boy, or more accurately, Stone Child. He was a Chippewa Chief who walked a peaceful path and was well-liked. He lobbied tirelessly across decades for the establishment of a Reservation for his tribe of landless Indians and other landless Indians in western Montana. The Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation was established in his honor shortly after his death in 1916. This is the Reservation I was born and raised on. Important note for this piece in particular, for Print options, I highly recommend selecting a gallery wrapped canvas with the mirrored border so you can see the whole image and it looks great anywhere without a frame.
