Mackerel on 34th Street

Description

The full name of this piece is Mackerel on 34th Street : A Cautionary Tail… in the most obvious interpretation, it’s a simple play on words, referencing a 1947 movie about Christmas. Less obviously, I think it speaks for itself with regard to rising water levels around the world. It also speaks to a self-centered and greedy aspect of the human condition… the one that got us to a place where future generations can’t count on many of the inherent aspects of their world that we older folk took for granted. My Fish Out of Water series is an extended metaphor for our being “spirits in the material world;” This painting takes that one sorry step further.
