Bad Moon Dancing

Oil on canvas 52" x 48" (2013)
This painting references Francisco Goya’s “Witches’ Sabbath” and Richard Scarry’s “Woodland Animal Picnic Birthday Party”. The word “Panic” came from the god Pan, noted for causing terror and to whom woodland noses were attributed. While Pan is often associated with Satan due to his goatishness. And, like they said in Heavenly Creatures: “All the best people have bad chests and bone diseases!” – being a sickly child/adolescent drove me to the dark side and I like it here. In my mind, these witches’ familiars are dancing to the Smiths’ “Cemetery Gates”.
