Uisce Beatha

Mixed media on a triple-primed box canvas. Enriched with several layers of varnish for a polished and lasting finish.

Uisce Beatha, meaning "water of life" in Gaelic, is a cheeky nod to the ancient Scots' priorities, calling whiskey their 'water of life', long before hydration came into fashion. Centred around a glass of whiskey, this piece celebrates the warmth, spirit, and stories shared over a good dram.
The table, partially extending from the canvas, seamlessly merges with the painted surface, emphasising its well-worn, stained nature. Spill marks and dripping whiskey suggest lively tales and moments shared in this imagined space.
The detailed craftsmanship of the resin glass, ice cubes, and textured table evokes a sense of nostalgia, inviting the viewer to linger in the warmth of this old tavern setting.
