The Mandir Series captures the resilience of a temple that withstood the test of time, social upheaval, and communal violence. Inspired by a temple that survived the 1992 attacks on religious structures, this painting depicts the interior of one such mandir, which has sheltered a Muslim family since the partition of India. Despite earthquakes weakening the structure and the looming threat of eviction, the family remains steadfast, transforming this once-public sacred space into their home.
The work reflects on how shared communal efforts have protected the temple, symbolizing the power of unity in the face of division. The series explores how places of worship, often symbols of division, can be redefined by those who inhabit them, becoming sites of resilience and coexistence
