Sandhill Crane

The Sandhill Crane a migratory and resident species of North Central Florida and one of the birds I most associate with my 34 years living in Gainesville. Their migratory patten marked the start of Fall and Spring, and their call always triggered my wanderlust like no other bird call. In Creek Nation lore, this bird offered to fly Rabbit to the moon and the weight of the beast stretched Crane's legs and colored its face red with exertion. But they made it, making Crane an enduring symbol of resilience.

This drawing no longer exists in this form. It has been erased by 23% representing the Cranes continued decline in North Florida.
