Eva Montealegre
Montealegre’s painting career emerged under the tutelage of abstract painter, Robert Kingston, at Pierce College where she graduated with honors in Graphic Arts. Since, her work has exhibited widely at many California galleries including Adagio Gallery on El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert, Blue Bird Art House, Modern Art Gallery on Wilshire Boulevard, the Planetary Kuiper Space Building, bG Gallery, and Ed Goldman's Made In America exhibit at TAG Gallery. She is a recipient of much recognition including a certificate of excellence from the Mayor of West Hollywood 2023 and the Puffin Foundation Grant in 2014. 2015 she was included in the prestigious Latina Art Initiative founded by Linda Vallejo. She continues to challenge the medium with her sculptural palette knife and mixed-media paintings culminating with her work showing at Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, Washington, in their Acts of Healing and Repair 2024 exhibit. Her range of ancient ancestral vocabulary to modern day theories often includes scientific diagrams and/or theories juxtaposed with ancient and innovative symbols. She is considered an ultra-contemporary "abstract symbolist." The narrative of her work illuminates her quest to pierce the mysteries of our collective psyche.
