I'm an unusual artist. I employ all of my senses when I paint. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I have glaucoma and my body compensates very well. In any event, painting for me involves the world around me. What music I am listening to shows up in my brushstrokes, or more often than not, my hand motions. Many times I paint using nothing more than my fingers and an occasional palette knife, almost sculpting the oils. The smells of linseed or walnut oil, rich "fatness" of the paints themselves and of course the aroma of either coffee or wine (depending on the time of day) all bring my senses alive. And the colors...ah the colors of nature bring me such joy as I explore ways to convey the emotion I feel when I am painting a scene.
For me I am all about the emotion, the passion, the evocative feelings I can bring out with the materials at hand by the gifting God has so graciously provided. If I can share what I am feeling then you become part of my world, and therefore, part of HIS world by extension. It's a beautiful thing!
