JC McCarthy (born Jennifer C. Winkley) is a self-taught artist originally from El Paso, Texas. In 1990 she moved into a small brick building - formerly a brothel - on the edge of the U.S.-Mexican border. There, her work was informed by the light and shadow of the Chihuahuan Desert, and by the desert stones that resembled the petrified organs of some half-remembered creatures. She now lives and works in Santa Fe, NM.
"This web of time - the strands of which approach one another, bifurcate, intersect or ignore each other through the centuries - embraces every possibility. We do not exist in most of them. In some you exist and not I, while in others I do, and you do not..."
Jorge Luis Borges
