Robert A Hutton
I have always drawn and sketched. My early works were pen and ink drawings of surreal landscapes. While in college I refined my sketches and added watercolor to the images. Upon finishing my M.S. Degree in geology, I took a 35 year hiatus to pursue a carrier as a geologist. Upon retiring, I moved to Ashland, Oregon to live in a small town and be within a mountain environment. Soon thereafter, I picked up an ink pen began sketching and painting again. It was not long before I realized that my hand was too shaky to draw clean lines and do the work I wanted. I quickly discovered that I could “draw” the style I wanted on the computer. I started to create my landscape by “drawings” using between 500-1000 polygons in PowerPoint. However, this process was not flexible or scaleable enough to create the detail art I desired. In early 2022 I started to work with graphic art programs to created more complex and fulfilling images. My art is not photoshopped or AI generated. I generally use 3-5 photographs to cobble together an interpretation of a landscape. My images are composed of many thousands of polygons and can take 30 the 50 hours to complete. The polygons in my pictures are vector based, they can be displayed from 2"x 3" to >200" x 300" without pixelization.
