Shane Edge
Shane Edge (b. 1980, OWENSBORO, KY) is an abstract painter whose work has been exhibited in community and formal academic settings since the late 1990s. With a focus on the absurd and oblivion, Edge's work occupies a formal vernacular influenced by avant-garde film, sound poetry, and psychedelia. His paintings are at once chaotic and scerene, exploring the relationship between form and color, as his compositions are equations in emotional intensity that take cues from the legacy of abstract expressionism and the non-representational. After the likes of Vassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, and colorfield painters such as Mark Rothko, Edge tethers energized mark making to associative frequencies inherent in language. As expressions of the body go, Shane Edge aims to ground the viewer in paradox and complex layers of reality in a synesthesia otherwise known as the interstitial space between the seen and unseen.
