"Water Time and Rocks 24"

Archival photoprint on stretched canvas. 2026. 40" x 58"

Water Time and Rocks is an extension of the series, Time Frames. These works are about the perception that time moves or flows. This perception is a part of consciousness referred to by philosopher, Henri Bergson as “duration” in his 1889 work, Time and Free Will.

In the ancient belief system of Taoism, water, time, and rocks serve as metaphors for understanding the principles of the Tao, the natural and universal way. Water represents the utopian way of living one’s life, time signifies the natural flow of existence, and rocks symbolize the seemingly permanent obstacles that are eventually overcome by gentle persistence.
