The Secret Chord

The brilliant poet, musician, composer Leonard Cohen died last year after a lifetime of creating an amazing body of memorable music. Many of his songs were based on the chord that he describes for us in his great song “Hallelujah.” “It goes like this: the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift.” It's also a really simple key to play in, with no sharps or flats, and Leonard says it “pleased the Lord.” I frequently find inspiration for paintings in Cohen’s work. This one was inspired by — and an homage to — Cohen’s ‘Secret Chord.”
