Rachel Carson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964)’s Silent Spring was a rallying point for the environmental movement that led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Rachel Carson began her career as an aquatic biologist. She wrote three books about ocean life: The Sea Around Us, The Edgy of the Sea and Under the Sea Wind.
Rachel Carson did a lot for the world, yet her life was difficult and short. In this painting, I want to create a place of comfort, where Ms. Carson is well protected; and what is cozier than being safely tugged in bed, reading horror/weird sci-fi during a stormy day? Hence this historical re-imaging:
Rachel Caron died shortly after her 1963 congressional testimony on environmental protection. Upon her death, some of her ashes were scattered along the coast of Maine. In this painting, Ms. Carson has risen from the sea and brought friends with her, to again testify before congress and demand action. “You and what army?” some might ask Ms. Caron. Well now, she got Cthulhu on her side.
