After the Fourth

One of my first paintings done after I entered art school. It was the one of the few transparent watercolors I did - switched to gouache (opaque watercolor) and used it for decades. Hard to believe I actually painted lace and ruffles - that didn't happen again. The dress, hat, and shoes were worn by my mom for a Fourth of July celebration. I think it cured me of using that much detail - things got a lot simpler after this one. Not sure I ever showed this one to my professors...
Original is in a private collection.
