I was inspired to paint this piece after a hike on Ogunquit, Maine’s iconic Marginal Way, a winding coastal path that intimately hugs the curves of the Atlantic Ocean. This original landscape painting captures a charming residential scene along that rugged shoreline, where the coastal architecture meets the sea.
The style of this work is Post-Impressionistic or Fauvist, characterized by thick, visible brushstrokes and a vibrant, expressive use of color. While the perspective is somewhat flattened to emphasize the interplay of shapes, the composition remains clearly defined, leading the viewer’s eye along the rocky coast.
