Figurative portrait of legendary actor and dancer, James Cagney. Appearing in late 1920's dramas and musicals Cagney hit it big with PUBLIC ENEMIY in 1931, in one of his many tough guy roles. More dramas and and musicals followed and then in 1942 Cagney starred as mega composer and showman, George M. Cohan, in YANKEE DOODLE DANDY, in which he displayed his incredible dancing technique. That role won him the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1943. Many hit films followed and in 1955 he got to reprise his role as Cohan in the SEVEN LITTLE FOYS. James Cagney continued in major films until his retirement in 1961 due to illness. He returned one last time in 1980 for a role in RAGTIME with Pat O'Brien.
