It was cold, the sun wasn't up yet, my hands were freezing, and I was in a photography workshop at White Sands, New Mexico, just outside Alamogordo. The "sand" really gypsum, was pure white, the plants strangely grow. I set up my tripod and waited. The sun was in opal shades of blue and pink, my birthstone.
