Cave of Many Colors

I tried to capture the essence of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in this painting; the gorgeous colors of Lake Superior, the rock walls, cliffs and caves, and the incredible variety of colors that build up on the rock walls from minerals seeping out. This particular spot between Miners Beach and Mosquito Beach had a lot of the turquoise colors from copper, and some wonderful hanging gardens. The fallen rocks remind us of the constant change from erosion, and the kayaks represent the wonderful array of recreational opportunities. This perspective is unique, and can only be seen by kayaking in, beaching on the ledges, and climbing up on a rock at the eastern end of this alcove, creating the large curve above.
