Canoes on the Buffalo River

The Buffalo National River was established in 1972 as a unit of the National Park Service, and was the first American River to be designated as such. It's green water flows freely for 135 miles below a spectacular array of limestone cliffs and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48. Deep in the heart of the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, this is a park and a float trip that will delight you! We were there for two years in the early 80's when the park was fairly new, stationed at Silver Hill. A Visitor Center and campground has since been built close by at Tyler Bend.
