This painting is based on various images from the violent demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia in August of 2017. Many neo-Nazi groups along with members of the KKK and other members of the "Alt-right" protested in defense of a Confederate war memorial. Others, in favor of the removal of the statue stage a counter protest. Violent clash ensued that culimnated with a member of the alt-right groups ramming his car into the crowd killing one and injurying many others.
