Walkers

Long shadows of dog walker on city street

When I began painting Walkers I had no idea where the image would end up. It was set aside many times until I was able to convince myself that it was somewhere north of horrid. The initial attraction was the anthropomorphic and ephemeral qualities but resolving the color issues seemed to push it into a realm of dream or memory. Thinking about a book I am reading as I write this, Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder by Caroline Fraser. Besides redefining ideas of hardship it reminded me of the joy to be found in things otherwise unadorned and unremarkable.
