ESPINOSA ART

Old Monastery

Inspired by my observations among mountains and Buddhist monasteries (Tibetan regions of China and the Himalaya of far north India). The scale, texture, color contrast and imposing ruggedness of the monastery walls and ruins- fantastic. I wanted to bring forth some sense of this on paper and canvas.

I created a scraped, smudged, layered texture to capture the patchwork state of some of the older monastery walls that I walked by. Some were in varying states of renovation, or left to the effects of the harsh weather.

Materials used: watercolor, gesso, pigment ink, charcoal.
