Saint Teresa of Avila

Saint Teresa of Avila ( 1515-1582)
Acrylic painting and photography

Let us imagine as I said that there are many rooms in the castle, of which some are above, some are at the side, in the center, in the middle of them all, is the principle chamber in which God and the soul hold their most secret intercourse.
(Interior Castle, 1577)

She wrote the book “Interior Castle” as a guide to spiritual development. It was inspired by her vision of the soul having the shape of a castle containing seven mansions, which represent the seven stages in spiritual development.
