Night Blooms

This piece was inspired by the jimpson weed or datura that grows wild near my home and doesn't bloom until late in the evening or during the night. In the background is the view of the local hills with the sky hinting at an approaching storm. The tree with gnarled, bare branches is one of many of the ancient oak trees that have recently died due to the dreaded oak wilt. To me, there was an intriguing contrast between the delicate flowers and the stark, almost haunting branches, capturing the beauty and unpredictability of nature.
