I have always loved the smell of Lily of the Valley. You can smell it long before you see it. I remember being told as a child it could kill you if you ate it and wondering why would anyone attempt that? What would be tasty about eating a flowering plant or its blooms? I often wondered if the warning didn’t encourage mischief from children who searched for that?
We never had Lily of the Valley on the farm I was raised but several of my friends in town did have them growing in their yards. I thought it was a landscaping type of flower put in its place purposefully for the design element. I never thought it was a naturally growing flower. All those yards had such a precious and desirable flower. I thought of them as so lucky and perhaps even rich.
