Pink Dinner Plate Dahlia

Flowing petals of pink and white Dinner Plate Dahlia watercolor on Arches watercolor paper. This flower in reality was over 14 inches in diameter and was a complete joy to have on my counter.
Fun Dahlia Facts:
• Dahlias were given as symbols of devotion, love, beauty, inner strength, creativity, elegance and dignity.
• Flowers come in an almost infinite range of hues, from creamy white and palest pink, to (almost) black, and everything in between.
• The Dahlia can range in size from petite 2-inch lollipop-style pompoms to giant 15-inch “dinner plates.” Most varieties grow 4 to 5 feet tall.

It wasn’t until recently that I became enamored by this beautiful flower. The depth of the petal, the plethora of color variations, the incredible size variations, and the multitude of petal configurations let alone the shapes! I have been drawn into its depths and lost in their beauty. I’ve gone to Farmer’s Markets, Florists and even the Dahlia gardens themselves looking for these incredible flowers.

This beautiful flower was photographed by me before I painted it. To see these beautiful flowers in their garden home visit Cher's Garden in Madison Wisconsin.
