Adaptation

Oil and Acrylic on Panel

Seahorses and Sea Dragons are the only species on the planet where the male undergoes pregnancy and gives birth. To ensure the best possible survival, evolution has fostered this unique role reversal so that females can be preparing more eggs without devoting time to pregnancy. Nature abounds with clever solutions to the issue of propagation. The cup mushroom reproduces asexually, protecting its fungal spores until wind conditions are prime to achieve the maximum possible distribution. Gender stereotypes are inconsequential when it comes to nature guaranteeing survival. There may even be a time in the course of human evolution where a small adaption to our fluctuating environment renders the very idea of gender meaningless.
