Red and White Dahlia

Amazing contrast in the Red and White Dahlia watercolor on Strathmore paper with high quality watercolor paint.
Fun Fasts:
• Dahlias are a tuber that each year must be winterized and protected in cold zones replanting every spring.
• The blooms of this flower are so diverse that they attract hummingbirds, butterflies, small insects, and little frogs to eat the insects
• Originating in Mexico the explorers took them back to Europe for medicinal purposes
• Typically, the Dahlia has little or no fragrance, it is the color that draws birds, butterflies and insects

I absolutely love this dahlia! It reminds me of life. Layer after layer bring beauty and growth. And the petals are an incredible mix of contrast. Every floral painting so far has shown me a new technique, a challenge of brush and paint. I begin wondering if it will turn out as I’d planned. Once past the initial layout and base coat I see the composition coming to life and the rest is a party in the paint.
